High Blood Pressure Conditions
- Resistant hypertension
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Hypertension in pregnancy
- Hypertension in the elderly
Resistant hypertension is defined as blood pressure that remains high even though you are taking three or more pressure-lowering medications, or if you need to take four or more medications to reach your blood pressure target.
Orthostatic hypotension is a sudden increase in blood pressure when you stand up. It is characterized by feeling lightheaded or dizzy when you stand up after sitting or lying down. Other symptoms may include blurry vision, weakness, fainting (syncope), confusion, or nausea.
Depending upon your diagnosis, Dr. Savransky may suggest all or any of the following high blood pressure treatments:
- Medical treatment, including medications
- Dietary consultation
- Lifestyle modifications
Dr. Savransky also provides 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring to evaluate the severity of your high blood pressure and/or to measure the effectiveness of your medications. The doctor also performs central blood pressure testing with SphygmoCor. This technology will show not only standard blood pressure in the arm, but also central blood pressure in the heart. This central blood pressure measurement is key to identifying risks for heart attack or stroke and for managing hypertension treatment.
